Recall Summary
On June 13, 2024, Bambu Lab USA Inc., of Austin, Texas, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 12,800 Bambu Lab model A1 3D printers. The recall was initiated due to electric shock and fire hazards associated with the product. The recall notice was published on the CPSC website under Recall Number 24264.

Affected Products
The recall involves Bambu Lab model A1 3D printers. The affected units can be identified by the sixth digit of the serial number, which is “A.” The serial number is located on the QR code sticker on the rear of the printer. The recalled printers measure approximately 18 inches by 16 inches by 17 inches and were sold for personal use. The company name and model designation, “Bambu Lab A1,” are printed on the printer’s x-axis motor cover. The printers were manufactured in China. The products were sold at Micro Center stores nationwide and online at us.store.bambulab.com from December 2023 through January 2024, with a retail price between $400 and $560.

Hazard Information
According to the recall notice, when the recalled 3D printer’s heatbed cable is bent or damaged, it can short-circuit and spark or burn through the insulation layer. This condition poses electric shock and fire hazards to consumers. The firm has received a total of 19 reports of damaged cables, including one report of a cable sparking. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled 3D printers. Consumers should not attempt to fix the recalled product themselves. Bambu Lab has contacted all known purchasers directly regarding the recall. Consumers are instructed to contact Bambu Lab to arrange for one of two available remedies: (1) return of the A1 3D printer for a full refund, or (2) free replacement of the heatbed and cable by a local electronics repair facility. Consumers requesting a full refund will be sent a prepaid shipping label to return the printer.

The official remedy options for this recall are a refund or a replacement. Under the refund option, consumers will receive a full refund for the returned printer, with a prepaid shipping label provided by Bambu Lab. Under the replacement option, Bambu Lab will arrange for a free replacement of the heatbed and cable, to be performed by a local electronics repair facility. Consumers are not authorized to perform the repair themselves.
