1. Recall Summary
On April 27, 2023, a recall was announced for certain Steamfast and Brookstone brand travel steam irons. The recall was initiated by Vornado Air LLC, of Andover, Kansas, and Brookstone Inc., of Merrimack, New Hampshire. The recall involves approximately 317,000 units in the United States and an additional 5,000 units in Canada. The recalled products were manufactured in China.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes the following models and date codes:
– Steamfast Home and Away Travel Steam Irons (Dual Voltage):
– Model SF-717: Date codes JAN08 through MAR17 (or 01/08 through 03/17). Sold nationwide in the US.
– Model SF-720: Date codes JAN08 through MAR17 (or 01/08 through 03/17). Sold exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond.
– Model SF-727: Date code JAN17 only. Sold exclusively at Walmart.
– Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons:
– Model 606335: All date codes. Sold exclusively at Brookstone from 2009 to 2013.
The model numbers and production date codes are printed on the back of the irons. The irons are white and have the brand name “Steamfast” or “Brookstone” printed on them. The recalled irons can also be identified by the cord bushing. The recalled units have a gray or black cord bushing that extends less than one inch from the enclosure along the power cord. The irons were sold at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, Vornado.com, Steamfast.com, and other online retailers from January 2009 through May 2018. Brookstone units were sold between 2009 and 2013. The retail price was between $13 and $30.
3. Hazard Information
According to the recall notice, the power cord on the recalled irons can become damaged near the cord bushing. This damage can lead to overheating of the cord, posing fire and burn hazards. Additionally, cord damage near the bushing can result in exposed copper wires, posing a shock hazard. Vornado has received 50 reports of incidents, including 38 reports of the iron’s power cord smoking, sparking, burning, or showing other signs of overheating, and 12 reports of cord damage. No injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled irons. Consumers must visit the Steamfast or Vornado website to register for the recall.

The official remedy for this recall is a refund. Consumers who register for the recall will receive a refund of $19.99.
