The Procter & Gamble Company, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is recalling approximately 8.2 million units of liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags distributed in the United States. An additional 56,741 units were sold in Canada. The recall involves specific lot codes of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024. The recall was initiated due to a defect in the outer packaging.

2. Affected Products
The recalled products are liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags. Recalled products range from bags containing 12 to 39 laundry detergent packets. The specific product names included in the recall are:

These products were sold at Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart, and other major stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and other websites, from September 2023 through the present. The retail price ranged from $5 (for one 12-count bag) to $30 (for four 39-count bags in a box). The recall applies only to bags distributed in the United States. The manufacturer is The Procter & Gamble Company, of Cincinnati, Ohio. The country of manufacture is the United States.

3. Hazard Information
The outer packaging of the recalled bags, which is meant to prevent access to the contents, can split open near the zipper track. This defect poses a risk of serious injury to children and other vulnerable populations if the contents of the laundry detergent packets are ingested. The defect also poses a risk of skin or eye injuries. According to the recall notice, ingestion of a large quantity of any surfactant-containing household cleaning products can cause death among individuals with underlying health issues. The firm has received four reports of children in the United States accessing the liquid laundry packets, three of which reported ingestion during the time period that the recalled lots were sold. However, it is not known if these laundry packets came from recalled bags. No confirmed cases directly relating to this packaging defect have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately secure the recalled bags out of sight and reach of children. Consumers should check to see if their bag is part of the recall by locating the lot code on the bottom of the package. Recalled lot codes are listed at pg.com/bags. Consumers with recalled bags should submit a photo of the recalled product showing the lot code to participate in the recall.

5. Official Remedy
Consumers are entitled to a full refund from Procter & Gamble. Additionally, consumers will receive a free replacement child-resistant bag to store the product. Consumers can also receive a cabinet lock for securing laundry materials.
