1. Recall Summary
Rinnai America Corporation, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, is recalling approximately 2,030 units (with an additional 249 units sold in Canada) of Rinnai-brand i-Series Plus residential wall-mounted gas boilers. The recall was announced on June 5, 2025. The recall notice states that the boiler door can fail to seal properly due to incorrect screws, allowing carbon monoxide (CO) gases to escape.

2. Affected Products
The recall involves the following specific model numbers of Rinnai i-Series Plus residential wall-mounted gas boilers: IP175S, IP199S, IP175199C, and IP199199C. The boilers are rectangular and metal, with the name “Rinnai” printed in black near the top and a temperature display/keypad located near the bottom of the front of the boiler. The top white label on the side of the boiler states “MADE IN JAPAN” and includes the model number followed by a reference code in parenthesis, “TYPE OF GAS NATURAL GAS,” and “SERIAL NO.” followed by letters and numbers. The boilers were sold by independent heating and plumbing contractors and wholesale distributors nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, Homedepot.com, and Lowes.com from September 2024 through February 2025. The retail price was between $3,900 and $5,000. The manufacturer is located in Japan. The importer is Rinnai America Corporation, of Peachtree City, Georgia.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the boiler door can fail to seal properly due to incorrect screws. This failure allows carbon monoxide (CO) gases to escape from the boiler. The recall notice explicitly states that this poses a carbon monoxide poisoning hazard. As of the date of the recall notice, no injuries have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using the recalled boilers. For consumers who must continue using the boiler while awaiting repair, the recall notice instructs that they should have working carbon monoxide alarms installed on each level of their homes and outside sleeping areas. Consumers should contact Rinnai to arrange for a certified technician to install the repair.
