Generac Power Systems Inc., of Waukesha, Wisconsin, is recalling approximately 64,000 units of Generac Portable Generators. The recalled products were sold at major home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and on various websites from April 2011 through June 2023 for between $3,300 and $3,650.

The recall involves Generac Portable Generators type GP15000E and type GP17500E. The specific model numbers for type GP15000E are G0057341, G0057342, 005734R1, and 005734R2. The specific model numbers for type GP17500E are G0057351, G0057352, 005735R1, and 005735R2. The brand name “Generac” and the unit type (GP15000E or GP17500E) are printed on both sides of the fuel tank and on the control panel of the generators. The model number is printed on a label located on the heat shield between the engine and alternator of the generator. 3. Hazard Information
The recalled generators’ fuel tank can fail to vent adequately from the rollover valve. This failure can cause the gas tank to build up excess pressure and expel fuel when the tank is opened. This poses fire and burn hazards. According to the recall notice, Generac has received reports of 27 incidents of the generators overheating and pressurizing or expelling fuel when opened. These incidents include three reports of severe burn injuries.
