On August 10, 2023, a recall was announced for two specific types of Red Apple Fireworks brand reloadable tube artillery shell fireworks. ‘Merica AF: This firework contains six shells. It was sold in red, white, and blue packaging featuring a cartoon representation of the Statue of Liberty, a hotdog, a popsicle, or an eagle.

The products were sold at Red Apple Fireworks stores in Valdosta, Georgia; Flint, Michigan; and Pahrump, Nevada, as well as online at www.redapplefireworks.com. The products were sold from April 2023 through July 2023. The price range for the recalled fireworks was between $27 and $230. The total number of units affected is approximately 2,400.

The recalled shell fireworks can explode prematurely. This poses explosion and burn hazards to consumers and bystanders. The recall was issued because the products violate federal firework safety standards. The firm has received 72 reports of fireworks prematurely exploding. No injuries have been reported.
