1. Recall Summary
Curtis International Ltd., of Canada, is recalling approximately 634,000 Frigidaire-brand minifridges. The recall involves Curtis International minifridges with the brand name “Frigidaire” printed on the front. The units were sold in 6- and 9-Can sizes and in a variety of colors, including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver. The recall was initiated due to reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire. Curtis International has received at least 26 such reports, with property damages totaling more than $700,000. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries.

The recalled products are Curtis International minifridges sold under the Frigidaire brand. The model numbers of the affected units are: EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175. The minifridges were sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com from January 2020 through December 2023 for between $36 and $40. The manufacturer is ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co. Ltd., of China. The importer is Curtis International Ltd., of Canada.
3. Hazard Information
The minifridges’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. As of the recall date, Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire. These incidents resulted in property damages totaling more than $700,000. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries. No other injuries or deaths have been reported in the source data.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled minifridges. Consumers must unplug the unit and cut the power cord.
