1. Recall Summary
3M Company, of St. Paul, Minnesota, is recalling certain Scotch™ Thermal Laminators. The recall was initiated due to a fire hazard associated with the product. The recall notice was published on December 8, 2022. The recall involves approximately 516,500 units in the United States and an additional 3,560 units sold in Canada.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes Scotch™ Thermal Laminators that are light gray/white in color with gray accents. The laminators have the word “Scotch” printed on the front. The laminating slot is approximately 13 inches wide, and the machine has a carrying handle on the right side.
The following model numbers are included in the recall:
– TL1302
– TL1302VP
– TL1302EF
– TL1302KIT
The model number and device serial number can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the laminator. The sticker on all devices includes only the model number “TL1302” without letters.
The recalled laminators were sold at Walmart, Staples, Costco, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Walmart.com, Amazon.com, and Staples.com. They were sold from April 2014 through October 2022 for a price range of $35 to $90. The products were manufactured in China.
3. Hazard Information
The recall notice states that a safety feature can malfunction if the laminator overheats, posing a fire hazard. 3M has received nine reports of the laminators catching on fire, including three reports of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the recalled laminators. Consumers should then contact 3M for a full refund and instructions on how to properly dispose of the laminator. Consumers should fill out the online recall registration form. 3M will then email the consumer directly to request additional information and inform consumers of how to properly dispose of the laminator.
