1. Recall Summary
This recall involves the rear wheel bolts on specific model year 2026 Trek-branded and Electra-branded electric bicycles. The recall was announced by the manufacturer, Hyena, Inc., of Taiwan. The affected bicycles were sold before October 28, 2025. The recall notice states that the rear wheel bolts can break when torqued, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

2. Affected Products
The recall applies to the following electric bicycle models:
– Trek FX+ 1 Midstep
– Trek FX+ 1S Midstep
– Trek FX+ 1 Stepover
– Trek FX+ 1S Stepover
– Electra Townie Go! Step Thru
– Electra Townie Go! S Step Thru

The bicycles are available in various colors and sizes. Trek bicycles have the word “TREK” printed on the downtube of the frame and “FX+” printed on the top tube. Electra bicycles have the word “townie” printed on the downtube, “electra” on the seat stay, and “go!” on the chain guard. The original rear wheel bolts are black and connect the motor to the rear frame of the bicycles.

Approximately 19,890 units are affected. The bicycles were sold at Trek stores and Trek authorized retailers nationwide and online from April 2025 through October 2025 for about $2,100.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the rear wheel bolts can break when torqued. This failure can cause the rear wheel to separate from the bicycle, posing a fall hazard to the rider. The firm, Hyena, Inc., has received seven reports of the rear wheel bolts breaking on affected bicycles. No injuries have been reported in connection with this issue.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the bicycles that have the recalled rear wheel bolts. Consumers must contact an authorized Trek or Electra dealer to schedule a free repair at the dealer’s location. 5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free repair. The authorized Trek or Electra dealer will replace the original black rear wheel bolts with new silver rear wheel bolts. Additionally, Trek will provide consumers who participate in the recall with a $10 in-store credit toward any Trek, Electra, or Bontrager merchandise. This credit is valid through December 31, 2026.
