Recall Summary
On September 19, 2024, Jo-Ann Stores LLC, of Hudson, Ohio, announced a recall of Place & Time® battery-operated desk lamps with a USB cord. The recall was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) under Recall Number 24373. The recall involves approximately 9,700 units sold in the United States. The lamps were imported by Jo-Ann Stores LLC and manufactured in China.
Affected Products
The recalled product is the Place & Time battery-operated desk lamp with a USB cord. The lamp was sold in three colors:
– Green, model number 4843351B
– Pink, model number 4843351A
– Cream, model number 4843351D
The model number is located on a label on the bottom of the lamp. The lamp measures approximately 12 inches in height when the neck is fully extended and approximately 4 inches in width at the base. The lamps were sold at Jo-Ann Stores nationwide and online at www.joann.com from May 2024 through July 2024 for about $23.
Hazard Information
The desk lamp’s battery compartment can overheat while using the USB charging cord, posing a fire hazard. The firm has received three reports of the battery compartment melting or popping while the lamp was charging with the USB cord. No injuries have been reported.
Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled desk lamps. Consumers must return the recalled lamps to any Jo-Ann Store for a full refund. Consumers who are unable to return the lamp to a store may email a photo of the purchase receipt to customer.service@joann.com with the subject line “Desk Lamp Recall Refund” to receive an electronic gift card for the amount on the purchase receipt. If the consumer does not have the purchase receipt, they may provide a photo of the lamp to receive a $23 store credit.
Official Remedy
The official remedy is a refund. Consumers who return the lamp to a Jo-Ann Store will receive a full refund. Consumers without a purchase receipt who return the lamp to a store will receive a $23 store credit. Consumers who cannot return the lamp to a store and email a photo of the purchase receipt will receive an electronic gift card for the amount on the receipt. Consumers who cannot return the lamp to a store and do not have a receipt but provide a photo of the lamp will receive a $23 store credit.
