The descender is available in two colors: orange (model D005AA00) and black (model D005AA01). Serial numbers on the affected units range between 19 F 0000000 000 and 22 A 9999999 999. Serial numbers are located on the frame of the product. Approximately 3,450 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 177 units were sold in Canada. The devices were sold at REI, Karst Sports, Backcountry.com, www.petzl.com, and other websites and outdoor stores nationwide from July 2019 through January 2022 for about $39.

Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the user’s rope can get caught or wedged in the PIRANA blocking slot. This can stop or suspend the climber during use. If the user is under a waterfall or in a pool of water at the time of this occurrence, the situation poses a drowning risk. No injuries have been reported as of the recall publication date.
