Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp., of Brookfield, Wisconsin, is recalling approximately 90,860 units of the M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaw (with an additional 7,500 units sold in Canada). The recall involves models with either a 12-inch or 14-inch bar. The recall was initiated due to a reported defect in the chainsaw’s chain brake mechanism. The firm has received two reports of the chain brake not activating, including one injury involving a lacerated finger.

2. Affected Products
The recall includes the M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaw, catalog number 2826-20. The catalog number is located on the upper right portion of the product’s nameplate. The serial number is located on the upper left portion of the nameplate. The recall applies to units where the fourth digit of the serial number is the letter “A” (serial break level). The product is a battery-operated chainsaw intended for use with Milwaukee’s M18 batteries. It is sold either as a bare tool (which includes a chain, bar cover, and blade wrench) or as a kit (which includes two M18 batteries, an M18 battery charger, a chain, a bar cover, and a blade wrench). The products were sold at Home Depot and other home improvement stores, online at homedotcom, and through other distribution partners from March 2023 through September 2024. The price was approximately $350 for the tool only, or $790 for the kit with batteries and charger.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled chainsaw’s chain brake may not activate. This failure poses a laceration hazard to the user. The firm has received two reports of the chain brake not activating. One report involved an injury resulting in a lacerated finger.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chainsaw. Consumers must contact Milwaukee Tool to arrange for a free repair.
