Recall Summary
On July 31, 2025, Backyard Kids, LLC, of Plano, Texas, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens. The recall was issued due to a strangulation hazard associated with the product. One death has been reported in connection with this hazard. The recall number is 25415. The product was manufactured in China.
Affected Products
The recalled product is the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen, intended for children aged 3 years and older. The play kitchen is primarily black and light gray with wood-like countertops. It measures approximately 44 inches in length, 13 ¾ inches in width, and 43 inches in height. The model number 53411 is located on a sticker on the back of the play kitchen. Approximately 192,000 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 12 units were sold in Canada. The play kitchens were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from 2018 through July 2025, with a retail price range of $120 to $270.
Hazard Information
The hazard involves plastic or metal hooks located on the back of the play kitchen. These hooks are designed to hold toy kitchen accessories such as play pots and pans. If young children climb on the counter or crawl through the opening at the back of the play kitchen, their clothing can become caught on these hooks. This poses a strangulation hazard. According to the recall notice, in February 2023 in Oregon, a 23-month-old child was asphyxiated after his shirt got caught on one of the hooks while climbing and crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchen where the toy kitchen accessories are held. The child was unable to rescue himself and died from strangulation and asphyxia.
Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled play kitchens. Consumers must remove the original hooks from the product. After removing the hooks, consumers should contact Backyard Kids to receive free replacement hooks. The recall notice states that Backyard Kids has agreed to provide free replacement hooks to all consumers with affected units as part of this recall.
Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a repair. Specifically, Backyard Kids will provide free replacement hooks to consumers. The replacement hooks are intended to eliminate the strangulation hazard. No other remedy options, such as refund or replacement of the entire unit, are specified in the recall notice.
