Positec Tool Corporation, of Charlotte, North Carolina, is recalling certain Hyper Tough, Worx, and Portland brand electric corded chainsaws and pole saws. The recall was initiated in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The products were manufactured in China. Approximately 49,000 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 3,000 units were sold in Canada.

2. Affected Products

– Worx 8 Amp Electric Pole Saw (Model WG309): Orange and black saw marked “WORX” on the saw body and bar, shipped with an 8-foot pole extension. Sold at Worx.com and Amazon.com. Affected units have serial numbers where the first six digits fall between 202408 and 202501.
– Portland 9 Amp 14″ Chainsaw: Green saw with a black bar, marked “Portland” on the bar. Sold at Harbor Freight stores and HarborFreight.com. Affected units have SKU 58949 and UPC 193175451774, with serial numbers between 37567 2442 and 37567 2451.

The products were sold nationwide from September 2024 through March 2025 for between $50 and $120.

3. Hazard Information
The main switch on the recalled chainsaws and pole saws can fail, allowing the saws to continue to run even after the switch is released. This poses a laceration hazard to the user. As of the date of the recall notice, no injuries have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products. Consumers must contact Positec to arrange for the return of the unit. Positec will provide a pre-paid shipping label and, if needed, a new box to return the product free of charge.

Upon receipt of the recalled product, Positec will provide consumers with a free replacement chainsaw or pole saw.
