Recall Summary
This recall involves DR Power PRO XL501 Chipper Shredders. The recall was initiated by DR Power Equipment, distributed by DR Power Equipment of South Burlington, Vermont, and manufactured by Generac of Waukesha, Wisconsin. The recall was published on March 2, 2023. The recall number is 23732. The firm has received six reports of the chipper shredders ejecting pieces of metal. No injuries have been reported.

Affected Products
The recalled products are DR Power Chipper Shredders with model numbers CS35050BEN and CS35050BENR. The model number is located on the side of the unit. The chipper shredders are used for yard and garden clean up. The recalled units have an orange body, a black motor on a black metal frame that has two wheels. The words “DR” and “PROXL501” are printed on the motor. Approximately 2,100 units were sold in the United States. In addition, about 27 units were sold in Canada and about 3 units were sold in Mexico. The products were sold by authorized DR Power equipment dealers nationwide and online at www.drpower.com from September 2019 through September 2022 for about $3,800.

Hazard Information
The fin scroll of the chipper shredder can fail, ejecting pieces of metal from the chipper shredder hopper during operation, posing a laceration hazard. The firm has received six reports of the chipper shredders ejecting pieces of metal. No injuries have been reported.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chipper shredders. DR Power Equipment is contacting all known purchasers and automatically sending them a repair kit with installation instructions. Consumers will also be provided with a small sticker with letters “NF” to place on the unit’s data tag to indicate that the scroll has been replaced. Consumers not wishing to make the repair themselves will be directed to a servicing dealer to make the free repair for them, including transportation to and from the dealer.

The official remedy is a free repair. The repair kit will be sent automatically to known purchasers. For consumers who do not wish to perform the repair themselves, the remedy includes free repair by a servicing dealer, including transportation to and from the dealer. A sticker with letters “NF” will be provided to place on the unit’s data tag to indicate the scroll has been replaced.
