1. Recall Summary
This recall involves approximately 2.2 million DeWALT, Stanley FATMAX, and Craftsman Fiberglass Sledgehammers sold in the United States, in addition to about 53,000 units sold in Canada. The recall was announced on April 20, 2023, by Stanley Black & Decker. The recalled sledgehammers weigh between 2 and 12 pounds and range between 14 inches and 36 inches in length. The DeWALT sledgehammers are yellow and black, the Stanley sledgehammers are yellow and black, and the Craftsman sledgehammers are red and black. Each sledgehammer has the brand name written on the handle. The products were sold at The Home Depot, ACE Hardware, and other hardware stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, Homedepot.com, AceHardware.com, and other online sellers from November 2013 through November 2022, with prices ranging from about $18 to $26. The sledgehammers were manufactured in Vietnam.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the head of the sledgehammers can loosen prematurely and detach unexpectedly during use, posing an impact injury hazard to the user. The firm has received 192 reports of the sledgehammer’s head detaching, including two reported injuries to consumers’ face and head.
