1. Recall Summary
DEWALT Industrial Tool Company, of Towson, Maryland, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 17,680 DEWALT Elite Grinder Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs. The recall was initiated due to a hazard involving the discs detaching during use. The recall notice was published on July 3, 2025.
2. Affected Products
The recall involves DEWALT Elite Grinder Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs. Two specific models are included in the recall: DWA8280HRT and DWA8280RT. These discs are compatible with angle grinders for heavy duty use.
Only units with date codes ranging from 2024-36 to 2024-48 are part of this recall. The model number is located on the front cover of the flap disc, positioned at the top above the name “DEWALT.” The date code for recalled discs is printed on the shipping boxes in a year-week format and is also stamped on the individual discs. If a consumer is unable to determine the date code, the recall notice instructs them to contact DEWALT for assistance.
The recalled products were sold at industrial supply stores nationwide, including Grainger, Fastenal, and Airgas, as well as online on Amazon.com. The products were sold from September 2024 through May 2025 for a price between $7 and $10. The discs were manufactured in Turkey.
3. Hazard Information
The ceramic cloth abrasive flaps on the disc can detach while in use on a grinder. This detachment poses laceration and injury hazards to the user. The firm has received three reports of the flap disc coming apart while in use on the grinder. These incidents resulted in three injuries, specifically cuts and scrapes.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled flap discs. The recall notice instructs consumers to go to the DEWALT website at the following URL to participate in the recall: https://www.dewalt.com/support/safety-notices-and-recalls/flap-disc-recall.
As part of the recall process, consumers will be asked to write “Recall” on the disc and upload a photograph of the disc to the firm’s website. After submitting the photograph, consumers will be asked to certify that they have disposed of the disc in the trash.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a refund. After completing the steps outlined in the Consumer Action Required section (writing “Recall” on the disc, uploading a photograph, and certifying disposal), consumers will receive a refund.
