Recall Information Record: Direct Scaffold Supply Casters for Baker Scaffolding
Recall Summary
On June 5, 2025, Direct Scaffold Supply LLC, of Houston, Texas, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 23,000 units of five-inch casters used on baker scaffolding. The recall was initiated because the casters can contain faulty spot welds that may cause them to break or fail, making the scaffolding unstable and posing a fall hazard. The firm has received two reports of casters breaking or failing, including one injury where a caster failure led to a fall and bruising injury.
Affected Products
This recall involves five-inch casters for baker scaffolding. The caster wheel allows the baker scaffolding to be moved easily. The following model numbers are included in the recall: CAS5SS4P+BFL, CAS5SS4P+AHD, MPISUS+BFL, MPISUS, MPISUSD+BFL, MPISUST+BFL, MPISU+BFL, MPISU, MPISU+1, MPISUS+AHD, and MPISU+AHD. Model numbers are only found on the purchase receipt or packaging.
Consumers with these model numbers must also check the heat codes stamped on the metal portion of the caster wheel. Heat codes requiring replacement include: E22WM483, C23WM320, E23WM320, K23WM320, and D22WM483.
The recalled casters were sold with baker scaffolding at DSS Branches and Lowe’s stores nationwide, and online at Granite.com, Homedepot.com, and Lowes.com from September 2022 through March 2025. The casters were sold as part of baker scaffolding units priced between $280 and $1,600, and were also sold separately in four-packs for about $110. The casters were manufactured in China.
Hazard Information
The recalled casters can contain faulty spot welds that can cause them to break or fail. If a caster breaks or fails while the scaffolding is in use, the scaffolding can become unstable, creating a fall hazard for the user. The firm has received two reports of casters breaking or failing, and one report of a fall resulting in a bruising injury.
Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled casters. Consumers must then contact Direct Scaffold Supply for instructions to receive free replacement caster wheels. The firm will provide a prepaid shipping label and packaging that can be used to return the recalled caster wheels. Once the casters are returned, new replacement casters will be sent to the consumer’s address.
Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement of the recalled caster wheels. Consumers are instructed to stop using the product, contact the firm, return the recalled casters using the provided prepaid shipping label and packaging, and then receive new replacement casters at no charge.
