Platinum Health LLC, of Orlando, Florida, is recalling approximately 53,000 units of LumaRail Adult Portable Bed Rails. The recall involves three specific models: the Bed Assist Rail with Legs (model PHB4000), the Free Standing Bed Assist Rail (model PHB6000), and the DoubleSafe Bed Assist Rail (model PHB7000D). The recall was initiated due to a serious entrapment and asphyxia hazard. The firm has received one report of a death associated with this product.

3. Hazard Information
When the recalled bed rails are attached to an adult’s bed, users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress. This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation.

Platinum Health has received one report of a death involving the Bed Assist Rail with Legs (model PHB4000). In October 2021, an 81-year-old man at a nursing home in Pennsylvania died from positional asphyxia after becoming entrapped between his mattress and the bed rail.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails. Consumers should contact Platinum Health to receive a free repair kit. For consumers who use model PHB7000D on twin beds, a free replacement bed rail redesigned to properly fit twin beds will be provided.
