The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Commencal Corp., announced a recall of Commencal Ramones 14-inch children’s bicycles on March 24, 2022. The recall involves approximately 925 units sold in the United States. The bicycles were manufactured in Thailand and imported by Comesport SA, of Andorra. The distributor is Commencal Corp., of Golden, Colorado. The recall was issued because the bicycles do not comply with federal safety regulations requiring foot brakes on bicycles with seat heights at or below 25 inches. The bicycles were sold online at www.commencalusa.com from December 2014 through March 2021 for between $230 and $320.
3. Hazard Information
Federal regulations require bicycles with seat heights measuring at or below 25 inches to be equipped with foot brakes. The recalled bicycles are equipped only with handbrakes. This configuration can pose a crash hazard or a risk of injury to young children who might not be able to stop the bicycles using handbrakes only. As of the recall date, no injuries have been reported.
