Recall Summary

On July 24, 2025, Curtis International Ltd., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 634,000 Frigidaire-brand minifridges. The recalled products are minifridges manufactured by ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co. Ltd., of China, and imported by Curtis International Ltd., of Canada. The minifridges were sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com from January 2020 through December 2023 for between $36 and $40.

Affected Products

The recall involves Curtis International minifridges bearing the “Frigidaire” brand name printed on the front. The affected model numbers are EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175. The minifridges were sold in 6-Can and 9-Can sizes and were available in a variety of colors, including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver.

Model and serial numbers are located on a label on the back of the minifridge. The serial number ranges for each model are as follows:
– Model EFMIS129: Serial numbers between A2001 and A2308. Note: If the model number is “EFMIS129-B” or “EFMIS129-C”, that unit is not included in this recall.
– Model EFMIS137: Serial numbers between A2001 and A2312.
– Model EFMIS149: Serial numbers between A2001 and A2308.
– Model EFMIS175: Serial numbers between A2001 and A2310.

Hazard Information

The minifridges’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire. Property damage totaling more than $700,000 has been reported. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries. No other injury information was specified in the recall notice.
