Recall Information Record: Segway / Ninebot Children’s Bicycle Helmets

1. Recall Summary
On March 24, 2022, Segway Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of certain Ninebot children’s bicycle helmets. The recall was initiated because the helmets do not comply with the positional stability and retention system requirements of the U.S. CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. The recall number is 22107. Approximately 960 units were sold in the United States. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

2. Affected Products
The recall involves the Ninebot Kids bike helmets. The helmets are sold in an orange/white exterior color and are size extra-small (XS), fitting head circumferences from approximately 19 ½ inches to 21 ½ inches. The word “Ninebot” is printed on the sides of the helmet. Model number NB-410 is printed on a label on the inside of the helmet. The batch code and date are found on a separate label on the inside of the helmet. Only helmets with batch code SN4500056024 and date “August 2020” are included in this recall. The helmets were manufactured by GuangZhou NOW Sports Gear Co. Ltd., of China, and imported by Segway Inc., of Bedford, N.H. They were sold at Best Buy and other retailers nationwide, as well as online at Segway.com and Amazon.com, from December 2020 through May 2021, for a price between $30 and $50.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled bicycle helmets do not comply with the positional stability and retention system requirements of the U.S. CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. As a result, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury. No injuries or incidents have been reported to Segway or CPSC as of the date of the recall notice.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. The recall notice instructs consumers to return the helmets to Segway for a full refund. Segway is contacting all known purchasers to facilitate returns using prepaid postage. Consumers who have not been contacted may initiate the return process themselves by contacting Segway using the methods listed below.
