1. Recall Summary
BISSELL Homecare Inc., of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, announced a voluntary recall of certain cordless multi-surface wet dry vacuum models. The recall was initiated due to a fire hazard associated with the product’s battery pack. The recall notice was published on January 12, 2023.
2. Affected Products
The recall involves BISSELL Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuum models 2551, 2551W, and 25519. The brand name “BISSELL” is printed on the foot of the product. The specific model number is visible when the clean water tank is removed. The vacuums were sold in a variety of retail channels.

– Approximately 61,000 units were sold in the United States.

3. Hazard Information
The circuit board inside the vacuum’s battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard.
Incidents Reported:
BISSELL has received 66 reports of the vacuum smoking and emitting a burning odor. This includes five reports of the battery pack catching on fire. Of those five fire incidents, three resulted in minor property damage and one resulted in a burn injury.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vacuums. Consumers should not dispose of the product. The official remedy is a free battery pack replacement.
