1. Recall Summary
Bayer HealthCare LLC, of Whippany, New Jersey, is recalling approximately 786,100 units of Travel Size Afrin® Original Nasal Spray 6 mL bottles. The recall was initiated because the product violates the mandatory standard for child-resistant packaging under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The recall notice was published on April 30, 2026. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
2. Affected Products
The recall involves unexpired Travel Size Afrin® Original Nasal Spray 6 mL bottles. The affected lot numbers are: 230361, 240822, 241198, 250066, 250152, 250646, and 250831. The product is identified by the text “Afrin® Original Nasal Spray” and “1/5 FL OZ (6 mL)” printed on a label located on the front of the bottle. The lot number is a six-digit number, followed by the expiration date in the format “YYYYMMM”. No other sizes of Afrin are included in this recall. The products were sold at retailers such as convenience stores and travel hubs including airports from September 2024 through April 2026, with a retail price of approximately $7 to $9. The manufacturer is located in Germany.
3. Hazard Information
The 6 mL nasal sprays contain an imidazoline. According to the recall notice, the Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires that such products be in child-resistant packaging or meet the labeling requirements for non-complying packaging. The 6 mL nasal spray’s packaging is not child-resistant and does not bear the required labeling statement. This poses a risk of serious injury or illness from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children. No injuries have been reported.
