Recall Information Record – Reclia Database
1. Recall Summary
On July 3, 2024, Focusee LTD, of Los Angeles, California, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of Tideway High-Speed Hair Dryers. The recall was published under CPSC Recall Number 24290. The recall involves approximately 27,400 units sold in the United States. The hair dryers were manufactured in China.
2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the Tideway High-Speed Hair Dryer, model PRO M01. The hair dryers have two speed adjustments and come with a nozzle. They were sold in white with gold on the bottom of the handle. The word “Tideway” is printed on the front of the handle. The hair dryers feature an LED ring that corresponds to different temperature settings: red for hot air, orange for warm air, blue for cold air, and green for hot and cold cycles. The model number M01 is printed on the product label. The hair dryers were sold online at TikTokShop.com, Shopify.com, and other websites from November 2023 through March 2024 for about $170.
3. Hazard Information
The recalled hair dryers lack an immersion protection device. According to the CPSC, hair dryers not equipped with this integral immersion protection present a substantial product hazard. If the hair dryer falls into water while it is plugged in, it poses an electrocution or shock hazard to consumers. As of the date of the recall notice, no injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the recalled hair dryers. Consumers must then destroy the recalled hair dryers by unplugging the hair dryer, cutting the cord, and disposing of them in accordance with local and state recycling laws. After destroying the unit, consumers must send an image of the destroyed hair dryer to info@tideway.shop or tidewayshopify@gmail.com. Upon receipt of the photo, Focusee will send the customer a replacement hair dryer that includes an immersion protection device.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Focusee LTD is a free replacement hair dryer equipped with an immersion protection device. The remedy option listed in the recall notice is a refund, but the specific instructions provided to consumers state that a replacement unit will be sent after the consumer submits a photo of the destroyed hair dryer. Consumers are not instructed to return the recalled product to the retailer or manufacturer; instead, they are directed to destroy it at home.
