1. Recall Summary
This recall involves Specialized Vado and Como IGH e-bikes equipped with chain/belt guards. The recalled e-bikes feature an internal gear hub (IGH) and do not have a rear derailleur (gear shift). The Specialized Bicycle brand name is located on the bike frame. The bikes are offered in a variety of colors, including black, limestone, red, sand, sea foam, navy, purple, white, gray, raspberry, umber, dark gray, and yellow. The e-bikes were sold by authorized Specialized Bicycle retailers nationwide and online from March 2021 through November 2024 for between $3,250 and $5,750. The units were manufactured in Vietnam and Taiwan. The recall was initiated by Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, California.

The recalled products are Specialized Vado and Como IGH e-bikes with chain/belt guards. The model numbers are printed on the white and black serial number label located on the underside of the bicycle’s top tube. The recalled model numbers are:

Approximately 32,400 units were sold in the United States. In addition, about 3,200 units were sold in Canada and about 190 units were sold in Mexico.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the bike’s protective chain/belt guard does not cover the belt drive. As a result, loose clothing can become entrapped in the belt drive, posing a fall hazard to the rider. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.
