1. Recall Summary
Petzl America LLC, of Salt Lake City, Utah, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of Petzl Scorpio Eashook lanyards with carabiners. The recall was published on February 9, 2022. The recalled product is a lanyard designed for via ferrata and adventure park use. The lanyard supports up to 264 pounds. It measures approximately 30 inches un-retracted, approximately 43 inches extended, and the short arm length is approximately 14 inches. The product features two retractable polyethylene arms with aluminum carabiners at the end of each arm. The word “SCORPIO” is printed on the gray zippered pouch that contains the energy absorber. “Petzl” is printed on the gray zipper pouch attached to the lanyard. A serial number ranging from 21A 0000000 000 through 21I 9999999 999 is printed on a white tag located inside that gray zipper pouch.

2. Affected Products
The affected product is the Petzl Scorpio Eashook Lanyard with Carabiners. The recall includes all units with serial numbers ranging from 21A 0000000 000 through 21I 9999999 999. The product was sold at Mountain Gear, Omni Progear, Ouray Mountain Sports, Moosejaw Mountaineering, Backcountry Gear Ltd., and boutique shops nationwide and online at www.petzl.com from January 2021 through February 2022 for approximately $180. The number of units affected in the United States is about 230. An additional approximately 22 units were sold in Canada. The manufacturer country is France.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the carabiner’s gate automatic closing system can malfunction. This malfunction poses a risk of serious injury or death to the user. As of the date of the recall notice, no injuries had been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lanyards. Consumers must contact Petzl to arrange for a full refund. Consumers will be provided a postage-paid label to return their recalled lanyard.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a full refund, including shipping costs. Consumers are instructed to return the recalled lanyard using the postage-paid label provided by Petzl.
