Petmate, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of Pet Zone-branded Laser Pointer & LED Ball pet toys. The back of the packaging lists “Item

:15712EAM.” The product is sold with six preinstalled button cell batteries. The importer is Doskocil Manufacturing Company Inc., dba Petmate, of Arlington, Texas. The product was manufactured in China.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled pet toys violate the mandatory standard for consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries as required by Reese’s Law. According to the recall notice, the LED-illuminated plastic sphere can break upon impact. If the sphere breaks, the button cell batteries inside become easily accessible to children. Swallowed button cell or coin batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death. The recall notice states that no injuries have been reported in connection with this product.
