Recall Summary
On February 22, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published Recall Number 24129 for certain Machir biometric personal safes. The recall was initiated by Machir LLC, of Springfield, Missouri. The firm received 15 reports of the recalled safes being opened by unauthorized users when the biometric lock failed to secure the safe. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves approximately 24,820 units sold in the United States.

Affected Products
The recalled product is the Machir Biometric Personal Safe, used to store personal items. The safe measures approximately 10 inches by 14 inches by 10 inches. The serial number is located on the lower right-hand corner of the front door of the safe. The following serial number ranges are included in this recall:

The safes were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from September 2021 through February 2023 for between $170 and $400. The safes were manufactured in China.

Hazard Information
The biometric lock on the safes can fail and be opened by unauthorized users. According to the recall notice, this poses a serious injury hazard and risk of death if the safe is used to store firearms. The firm has received 15 reports of the recalled safes being opened by unauthorized users when the biometric lock failed to secure the safe. No injuries have been reported.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the biometric lock feature on the recalled safes. Consumers must remove the batteries from the safe and only use the key to lock and unlock the safe to store their items until they receive a free replacement safe. Consumers should contact Machir to receive instructions on disabling the biometric lock feature and on how to receive a free replacement safe. Consumers will be asked to disable the biometric reader and email a photo of the disabled biometric reader to Info@machir.com in order to receive a replacement safe. Instructions on how to safely destroy the biometric reader are also located at http://machir.com/biorecall/.

Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement safe. Consumers must follow the instructions provided by Machir to disable the biometric reader and submit a photo of the disabled reader to receive the replacement.
