Recall Information Record
Recall Summary
On July 31, 2025, Backyard Kids, LLC, of Plano, Texas, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens. The recall was issued due to a strangulation hazard associated with the plastic or metal hooks on the play kitchen. One death was reported: in February 2023, a 23-month-old child in Oregon died after his shirt became caught on one of the hooks while climbing and crawling through an opening at the back of the play kitchen. The child was unable to free himself and died from strangulation and asphyxia.
Affected Products
The recalled product is the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen, designed for pretend play and intended for children aged 3 years or older. The play kitchen is primarily black and light gray with wood-like countertops. It measures approximately 44 inches in length, 13 ¾ inches in width, and 43 inches in height. The model number 53411 is printed on a sticker located on the back of the play kitchen.
Approximately 192,000 units were sold in the United States. In addition, 12 units were sold in Canada. The play kitchens were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from 2018 through July 2025. The retail price ranged from $120 to $270.
The manufacturer is KidKraft Inc., of Dallas, Texas. The distributor is Backyard Kids, LLC, of Plano, Texas. The product was manufactured in China.
Hazard Information
The hazard involves the plastic or metal hooks attached to the play kitchen. These hooks are intended to hold toy kitchen accessories, such as play pots and pans. If young children climb on the counter or crawl through the opening at the back of the play kitchen, their clothing can become caught on these hooks. This poses a strangulation hazard. One incident resulting in the death of a 23-month-old child has been reported as of the recall date.
Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled play kitchens. They should remove the original hooks from the play kitchen. After removing the hooks, consumers should contact Backyard Kids to request free replacement hooks. The recall notice instructs consumers to contact Backyard Kids for free replacement hooks as a part of this recall.
Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Backyard Kids is a repair. The company has agreed to provide free replacement hooks to all consumers with affected units. Consumers are to remove the original hooks and install the replacement hooks provided by the company. No other remedy options (such as refund or replacement of the entire unit) are specified in the recall notice.
