Recall Summary
On April 21, 2022, Best Buy Purchasing LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of Insignia brand air fryers and air fryer ovens. The recall was issued due to the products’ potential to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. The recall includes units sold in the United States and Canada. Best Buy received 68 reports from U.S. consumers and 36 reports from Canadian consumers of the air fryers or air fryer ovens catching fire, burning, or melting. These reports include seven incidents of minor property damage and two reports of injuries, including an injury to a child’s leg.

– NS-AFO6DBK1 (10 qt Digital Air Fryer Oven, Black)
– NS-AFO6DSS1 (10 qt Digital Air Fryer Oven, Stainless Steel)

The brand name “INSIGNIA” is printed on the top or front of each unit. A rating label on the underside of each unit identifies the brand and model number. The air fryers and air fryer ovens have cooking chamber capacities ranging from approximately 3.4 to 10 quarts. The units have plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black or stainless-steel finishes.

Approximately 635,000 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 137,000 units were sold in Canada.

The products were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com, www.eBay.com, and www.google.com from November 2018 through February 2022, with prices ranging from $30 to $150. The units were manufactured in China.

Hazard Information
The recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. As of the recall date, Best Buy had received 68 reports from U.S. consumers and 36 reports from Canadian consumers of the units catching fire, burning, or melting. These incidents include seven reports of minor property damage and two reports of injuries, including an injury to a child’s leg.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens. Consumers must return the product to Best Buy to receive a refund in the form of a credit for use at Best Buy stores or Bestbuy.com. Best Buy is contacting all known purchasers directly to arrange returns and is providing pre-paid shipping boxes and labels along with return instructions.

Official Remedy
The official remedy is a refund. Consumers will receive a credit of $50, or the amount on the purchase receipt if higher. Consumers do not need a purchase receipt to receive the $50 credit. The refund is issued as a credit for use at Best Buy stores or Bestbuy.com.
