1. Recall Summary
This recall involves electric motors used in gable- and roof-mounted attic fans. The recall was announced on August 28, 2025. The motors were distributed by Air Vent Inc., of Dallas, Texas, and manufactured in China. The recall was initiated due to a fire hazard associated with the electric motor’s safety cutoff. The distributor has received 159 reports of incidents involving burning or fire related to the recalled attic fan motors. No injuries have been reported.

2. Affected Products
The recalled products are electric motors for gable- and roof-mounted attic fans. The motors were sold only from August 2003 through December 2013. The affected model numbers are: DOW-136-0-34-XIN, DOW-136-0-26-XIN, DOW-136-0-40-XIN, DOW-136-0-40-XIN-3/4″, and D-RE-PSC-127/20-4P1SP. The recalled attic fan motors can be identified by a distinctive vent pattern on the motor end bells. Specifically, recalled motors have vents that align on the outer ring of the motor end bell and use an alternating pattern of two long vents then two short vents. Only attic fan motors with this distinctive vent pattern are subject to the recall. Unaffected motors have vents that align on the inner ring of the motor end bell and use an alternating pattern of one long vent then one short vent. Approximately 2.9 million units are affected. The motors were sold at various stores and wholesalers nationwide, including ABC Supply, Lowe’s, and Beacon, both in-store and online, for a price range of approximately $74 to $92.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled electric motor’s safety cutoff may pose a risk of short circuit and fire hazard while in use. The distributor has received 159 reports of incidents related to the recalled attic fan motors involving burning or fire. No injuries have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric motors. Consumers must contact Air Vent to initiate the recall process. Consumers will be asked to fill out an online registration and verification form, which requires submitting photos of the recalled attic fan motor. Upon confirmation that the consumer has a recalled attic fan motor, the consumer will receive a refund.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a refund. The refund is issued after the consumer completes the online registration and verification process, including providing photographic evidence of the recalled motor, and the distributor confirms the motor is subject to the recall.
