1. Recall Summary
This recall involves DEWALT Elite Grinder Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs. The recall was announced on July 3, 2025. The recall is due to the ceramic cloth abrasive flaps on the disc detaching while in use on a grinder, posing laceration and injury hazards. The firm has received three reports of the flap disc coming apart while in use, resulting in three injuries including cuts and scrapes. The products were sold at industrial supply stores nationwide, including Grainger, Fastenal and Airgas, and online on Amazon.com from September 2024 through May 2025 for between $7 and $10. The products were manufactured in Turkey.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes DEWALT Elite Grinder Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs, models DWA8280HRT and DWA8280RT. Only units with date codes 2024-36 to 2024-48 are part of this recall. The model number is located on the front cover of the flap disc at the top above the name “DEWALT.” The date code for recalled discs is printed on the shipping boxes in year-week format and is also stamped on the individual discs. If consumers are unable to determine the date code, they are instructed to contact DEWALT for assistance. Approximately 17,680 units are included in the recall.
3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the ceramic cloth abrasive flaps on the disc can detach while in use on a grinder. This poses laceration and injury hazards to the user. The firm has received three reports of the flap disc coming apart while in use on the grinder. These incidents resulted in three injuries, specifically cuts and scrapes.
4. Consumer Action Required
