1. Recall Summary
On June 27, 2024, Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing L.P. (DCT), in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of certain Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD heat pumps. The recall was initiated due to a hazard involving excessive heat exposure. The recall number is 24286. Approximately 56,000 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 5,522 units were sold in Canada. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

The recall involves Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD heat pumps. The units are beige in color, and the model name is printed on the outside of the unit. The recalled heat pumps were sold by independent heating and cooling dealers nationwide from May 2022 through April 2024. The retail price ranged between $2,200 and $5,700. The units were manufactured in the United States and Thailand.
3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with these heat pumps is that a power interruption can result in the product providing heat when the power resumes, despite the thermostat being set to cooling mode. This condition poses a risk of excessive heat exposure to consumers. As of the recall date, no injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled heat pumps in cooling mode until the software update has been completed. Consumers whose systems are connected to WiFi do not need to take any action; DCT will update the software remotely. Consumers with systems not connected to WiFi should register for the recall at the website provided by DCT to receive instructions on how to perform the software update.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a repair. Daikin Comfort Technologies (DCT) is providing a free software update to correct the issue. For consumers whose Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD heating and cooling systems are connected to WiFi, the software update will be performed remotely. For consumers with systems not connected to WiFi, DCT will provide instructions to perform the update after the consumer registers for the recall.
