1. Recall Summary
Weatherbeeta USA Inc., of Easton, Pennsylvania, is recalling approximately 2,300 Collegiate English horse-riding saddles. The recall was initiated due to a reported injury hazard. The firm has received 12 reports of the saddle’s rivet or stirrup bar breaking. One fall injury has been reported. The recall notice was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on December 14, 2023.

2. Affected Products
This recall involves nine models of Collegiate English horse-riding saddles. The specific models are: Degree Mono Event, Graduate Close Contact, Honour Close Contact, Integrity Mono Dressage, Lectern Dressage, and Warwick Close Contact. All recalled saddles are branded Collegiate and feature a Collegiate nail head in the head of the saddle and the Collegiate brand printed on the stirrup keeper. The saddles measure between 15 and 18 inches and were sold in black or brown leather or synthetic material, depending on the model.

All Lectern saddles are included in this recall. For all other models (Degree Mono Event, Graduate Close Contact, Honour Close Contact, Integrity Mono Dressage, and Warwick Close Contact), only saddles manufactured between March 2019 through July 2023 are included. The manufacturing date, in MM-YYYY format, is the last six digits of the serial number. The serial number is stamped on the underflap of the saddle, below “Made in India.”

The saddles were sold at Dover Saddlery, Equss Now, Strafford Saddlery Shop, The Carousel Horse Tack, and other stores nationwide and online at www.doversaddlery.com, www.smartpakequine.com, www.statelinetack.com, and www.weatherbeeta.com from May 2019 through October 2023. The retail price ranged between $430 and $1,300, depending on the model. The saddles were manufactured in India.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with this product is that the saddle’s rivet or stirrup bar can break. This can cause the rider to fall, posing an injury hazard. The firm has received 12 reports of the saddle’s rivet or stirrup bar breaking. One fall injury has been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled saddles. Consumers should contact Weatherbeeta for instructions to return the recalled saddle. Weatherbeeta is contacting all known purchasers directly.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement saddle, including free shipping, similar to the consumer’s original saddle. Consumers must contact Weatherbeeta to receive instructions for returning the recalled saddle in order to receive the replacement.
