1. Recall Summary
Bulldog Cases, of Danville, Virginia, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 33,500 Bulldog Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults. The recall involves three models of black steel safes used to store firearms and valuables. The recall was published on February 22, 2024.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes the following products:
– Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault (Model BD4030B): Measures 11.5 inches by 8 inches by 5.5 inches.
– Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault with Shelf (Model BD4040B): Measures 11.5 inches by 10 inches by 8 inches. This model contains one shelf and can store approximately two firearms.
– Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vault (Model BD4055B): Measures 11.5 inches by 9.8 inches by 2.5 inches.
The brand name “Bulldog” appears on the front of the safe. The model number is located on a label on a silver sticker on the back right corner of the safe. The products were sold at Bass Pro Shops, Walmart, and firearm stores nationwide, as well as online at www.Amazon.com, from July 2016 through January 2024, for a price between $194 and $216. The safes were manufactured in China.
3. Hazard Information
The biometric lock on the recalled safes can fail and be opened by unauthorized users. According to the recall notice, this poses a serious injury hazard and risk of death if the safe is used to store firearms. The firm received four reports of the safe being opened by an unauthorized user. No injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the biometric feature of the recalled safe. Consumers must remove the batteries from the safe. After removing the batteries, consumers should only use the key when storing firearms. Consumers should then contact Bulldog to receive a remedy.
5. Official Remedy
Consumers are entitled to one of the following remedies, depending on the model owned:
– For consumers with the Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults (Models BD4030B and BD4040B): A repair kit or a free replacement safe.
– For consumers with the Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vault (Model BD4055B): A free replacement safe.
