On November 13, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published Recall Number 26088 concerning certain Trek and Electra-branded bicycles equipped with coaster brakes, as well as specific replacement rear wheels with coaster brakes. The recall was initiated by Trek Bicycle Corporation, of Waterloo, Wisconsin. The bicycles were manufactured in China and sold at Trek and Electra authorized retailers nationwide, both in stores and online, as well as at Trek.com, from August 2023 through September 2025. The bicycles were priced between $300 and $660, and the replacement wheels were priced between $66 and $77. Approximately 68,000 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 6,820 units sold in Canada. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

– Electra Townie Rental 1 Step Thru (Model Year 2026)
– Trek Precaliber 12 (Model Year 2026)
– Trek Precaliber 16 (Model Years 2024 and 2026)
– Trek Precaliber 20 (Model Years 2024 and 2026)
– Electra Sprocket 1 16 (Model Year 2026)

Also included are the following replacement rear wheels with coaster brakes (Model Year 2026):
– Trek Precaliber 12 CB replacement wheel
– Trek Precaliber 16 CB replacement wheel
– Trek Precaliber 20 CB replacement wheel

The bicycles were sold in a variety of colors, including red, flamingo pink, dark aquatic, Mulsanne blue, volt yellow, pink frosting, Miami green, lithium gray, viper red, purple abyss, buttercup, pixie blue, and blue. To determine if a specific bicycle or replacement rear wheel is included in this recall, consumers must enter the bicycle’s serial number into the look-up tool provided at https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/coasterbrake-recall-inquiry/. The serial number is printed under the bottom bracket between the pedals and begins with the letters “WTU.”

3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with these products is that the coaster brakes can fail to engage. This failure can result in the rider losing control of the bicycle, posing a crash hazard. As of the recall publication date, no injuries have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using the recalled bicycles with coaster brakes and the related replacement rear wheels.
