1. Recall Summary
Prestige Import Group, of Deerfield, Florida, is recalling two models of Prestige-branded metal butane torch lighters. The recall involves the Supernova and Typhoon lighters. The recall was initiated because the lighters violate the mandatory federal safety standard for cigarette lighters. The lighters do not have the required child-resistant mechanism, and they failed to meet the pre-market lighter submission requirement needed to demonstrate that the lighters feature child-resistant mechanisms and ensure their safety and compliance with U.S. regulations. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
2. Affected Products
The recall involves approximately 4,300 units of two Prestige-branded metal butane torch lighters.
– Supernova Lighters: These are described as having a rugged, industrial look with a textured grip and a mesh-like metal panel on the side. The panel features three horizontal bands and a cap at the top of the flame valve. The Supernova lighters are available in gray and black.
– Typhoon Lighters: These are rectangular lighters available in silver, black, and black/silver color options. They have a metal and matte finish, with the ignition trigger located on the side and a cap on top of the flame valve.
The lighters were sold at small independent stores nationwide and online at prestigeimportgroup.com from October 2023 through March 2026 for between $7 and $10. The lighters were manufactured in China.
3. Hazard Information
The recalled lighters violate the mandatory standard for cigarette lighters. Specifically, they do not have the required child-resistant mechanism. This poses a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. Additionally, the lighters failed to meet the pre-market lighter submission requirement needed to demonstrate that the lighters feature child-resistant mechanisms and ensuring their safety and compliance with U.S. regulations. No injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should stop using the recalled lighters immediately. Consumers are instructed to contact Prestige Import Group for a full refund or store credit. As part of the remedy process, consumers will be asked to write “Recalled” in permanent marker on the lighter and send a photo of the marked lighter to salesdept2@prestigeimportgroup.com. After sending the photo, consumers should dispose of the recalled product in accordance with state and local waste disposal procedures.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Prestige Import Group is a full refund or store credit for the recalled lighters.
