1. Recall Summary
SIMU/Somfy Systems Inc., of Dayton, New Jersey, is recalling approximately 13,800 SIMU DMI6 Hz motors sold with and used to open and retract awnings and shutters. An additional 12 units were sold in Canada. The recall was initiated due to a hazard involving the motor’s power cable. The recall notice was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on December 15, 2022. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the SIMU DMI6 Hz motor. The motor is silver with some black color. The word “Simu” and the model name are printed on a label on the side of the motor. The motors were sold with and used to operate awnings and shutters. Consumers can identify whether their motor is part of this recall by completing the online questionnaire at www.simu.com/us/dmi6hzrecall or by contacting SIMU directly. The motors were sold by SIMU authorized dealers, installers, and contractors from March 2018 through June 2022. The motors were sold as part of awnings or shutters with prices ranging between $1,260 and $1,740. The motors were manufactured in Poland.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard involves the awning and shutter motor’s power cable. According to the recall notice, the power cable can disconnect while the awning or shutter is opened or closed manually (using the manual override feature). This disconnection poses electric shock and electrocution hazards to consumers. No injuries have been reported as of the date of the recall notice.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the manual override feature if their motorized awnings or shutters are not connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet or circuit breaker.
