Nestlé USA is recalling metallic mugs sold with Starbucks-branded gift sets. The recall involves four specific gift sets sold during the 2023 holiday season. The mugs are ceramic with a metallic coating and bear Starbucks branding. They were sold in 11 oz. and 16 oz. sizes. The recall was initiated due to burn and laceration hazards associated with the mugs.

2. Affected Products
The recalled products are metallic mugs included in the following 2023 holiday Starbucks-branded gift sets:
– Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs
– Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug
– Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug
– Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug

The mugs were sold in 11 oz. and 16 oz. sizes. The number of units affected is approximately 440,500. The mugs were manufactured in China. The products were sold online and in-store at Target and Walmart, and through Nexcom (military retail outlets) nationwide. The sale period was from November 2023 through January 2024. Prices ranged from about $10, $13, or $20 depending on the gift set. The distributor is Nestlé USA Inc., of Arlington, Virginia.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with these mugs is that if microwaved or filled with extremely hot liquid, the mugs can overheat or break. This poses burn and laceration hazards to consumers. As of the recall date, there have been 12 reported incidents of the mugs overheating or breaking. These incidents resulted in 10 injuries, including nine severe burns or blisters on fingers or hands, and one cut on a finger. One of these incidents required medical attention.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mugs. Consumers must either return the mugs to the place of purchase or contact Nestlé USA to receive a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a full refund.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a full refund. Consumers have two options for obtaining the refund:
– Option A: Return the mug to the store where it was purchased. The consumer can receive a cash or gift card refund at the store.
– Option B: Contact Nestlé USA directly.
