Recall Summary
On March 7, 2024, Getallfun, of Aurora, Illinois, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of high-powered magnetic ball sets. The recall was issued due to the products failing to meet the requirements of the mandatory federal toy regulation for magnet sets. The recall number is 24147. The recall notice states that CPSC testing determined the magnetic ball sets do not comply with the requirements of the mandatory federal toy regulation because they contain one or more magnets that fit within CPSC’s small parts cylinder and the magnets are stronger than permitted.

Affected Products
The recall involves 5mm Magnetic Balls, which are small, spherical, loose, and separable neodymium rare-earth magnets with a strong magnetic flux. The 5mm diameter magnets are sold in a set of 216 magnetic balls in various colors. The product is encased in a clear, plastic case and a portable tin storage box. The product name is “216-Piece 5mm Magnet Balls.” Approximately 1,140 units were sold. The products were sold at Getallfun’s store in Aurora, Illinois, and online at Getallfun.com from May 2021 through October 2023 for about $20. The manufacturer country is China.

Hazard Information
According to the recall notice, CPSC testing determined the magnetic ball sets do not comply with the requirements of the mandatory federal toy regulation because they contain one or more magnets that fit within CPSC’s small parts cylinder and the magnets are stronger than permitted. The hazard description states: When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death. No injuries have been reported in connection with this specific recall. The recall notice includes a general CPSC estimate that 2,400 magnet ingestions were treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 through 2021, and that CPSC is aware of seven deaths involving the ingestion of hazardous magnets, including two outside of the United States.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers should stop using the recalled magnets immediately. Consumers should take the magnets away from children. Consumers should contact Getallfun.com to receive a pre-paid label to return the recalled products. Getallfun is notifying all known purchasers directly.
