The recall was published on February 15, 2024, under CPSC Recall Number 24118. The recall involves approximately 2,425 units in the United States and an additional 2,400 units sold in Canada. The helmets were manufactured in China. The recall is limited to Bell Soquel Youth helmets made prior to September 2021.

The recalled product is the Bell Soquel Youth helmet. The recall only applies to helmets made prior to September 2021. The helmet can be identified by the inner helmet sticker, which displays the model name “Soquel” and the code “B0726Y”. The date code on the white inner label must show August 2021 (“8/21”) or an earlier date. The helmets were sold in various colors. Specific SKUs and product names for the U.S. market include: 7094740 (Youth Soquel Black / Red Mips, Bell Soquel Youth MIPS), 7094741 (Youth Soquel Blue Lagoon / Orange, Bell Soquel Youth), 7107133 (Youth Soquel Blue Lagoon / Orange, Bell Soquel Youth), and 7107134 (Youth Soquel Black / Red Mips, Bell Soquel Youth MIPS). Hazard Information

The strap anchor on the recalled helmet can become dislodged from the helmet when sufficient force is applied. This condition violates the CPSC federal safety regulation for bicycle helmets. As a result, the helmet may fail to protect the user in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumer Action Required

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Bell Soquel Youth helmets. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps. After destroying the helmet, consumers should upload photos of the helmet with the straps cut to consumersupport-bell@bellhelmets.com to prove destruction. The recalled helmet should then be disposed of.

Official Remedy

The official remedy for this recall is a refund. Consumers who follow the destruction and photo submission process will receive a refund from Bell Sports.
