Recall Information Record: Rollerblade USA Youth In-Line Skates

1. Recall Summary
On April 20, 2023, Rollerblade USA, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of certain youth in-line skates and brake support components. The recall was initiated due to a defect in the brake support that can fracture or separate during use. The recall notice states that Rollerblade has identified 11 reports of brake supports fracturing or breaking off of the skates. No injuries have been reported. The recall number is 23185.

The skates were sold in three adjustable size ranges: 12J-2, 2-6, and 5-8. The word “Rollerblade” is printed on the frame of the skate, on the wheels, and on the power strap. The SKU number is printed on the skate tongue label. The specific SKU numbers are:

Approximately 13,400 units were sold in the United States. The skates were manufactured in China. The skates were sold from May 2020 through March 2023 for about $150. A variant of the skate with gray, non-marking brake pads was sold for indoor institutional use directly to schools and rental facilities.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the brake support for the rear brake of the inline skates can fracture or separate. This condition can reduce user stability, increasing the risk of a fall. The recall notice explicitly states that Rollerblade has received 11 reports of brake supports fracturing or breaking off of the skates.
