1. Recall Summary
On June 15, 2023, Huish Outdoors, of Salt Lake City, Utah, announced a voluntary recall of certain SCUBA Diving Buoyancy Compensating Devices (BCDs). The recall involves the Oceanic OceanPro, Oceanic Excursion, and Oceanic Hera models. The recalled devices are jacket-style BCDs worn by a user during a dive. They feature an attachment point on the back for a SCUBA tank, an upper airway assembly with a corrugated rubber hose and inflation mechanism that can attach to a SCUBA regulator, and integrated weight pouches on either side that can be loaded with weights for emergency dumping. The recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Approximately 7,100 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 345 units were sold in Canada.

2. Affected Products
The recalled products are the Oceanic OceanPro, Oceanic Excursion, and Oceanic Hera models. Only these models with specific serial number ranges are included. The serial numbers are: 608262 through 695909, 1170357 through 1180342, 1200001 through 1200070, and 20031001 through 22082698. Additionally, only QLR4 Pocket Handles that do NOT contain a date code on the underside are included in the recall. The brand name “Oceanic” and the model name are embroidered on the side pockets. A serial number is located on a label inside the jacket assembly. The devices were sold at SCUBA dive equipment stores nationwide and online through third-party distributor and dealer websites from April 2019 through May 2023, with a price range between $530 and $720. The devices were manufactured in China and Vietnam.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard involves the handle for the weight pockets in the SCUBA Diving Buoyancy Compensating Device. According to the recall notice, the handle can break during use. If the handle breaks, the user will not be able to dump the weight pockets in an emergency to rise to the surface. This failure poses a drowning hazard. The firm has received 73 reports of broken weight pocket handles. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled SCUBA Diving Buoyancy Compensating Devices. Consumers should contact Huish Outdoors to receive free replacement weight pockets.
