1. Recall Summary
On June 22, 2023, Sound Around Inc., of Brooklyn, New York, initiated a recall of approximately 1,800 units of the Hurtle multi-purpose children’s helmet. The recall was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The helmets were manufactured in China. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

2. Affected Products
This recall involves the Hurtle multi-purpose children’s helmet. The helmets were sold in the following colors: black, blue, pink, white, and red. The word “Renegade” appears on the side of the helmet in white or black lettering. The straps are black. The white warning label located on the inside of the helmet displays the word “Renegade” in black and orange lettering. The helmets are sized to fit head circumferences from approximately seven inches to approximately eight inches.

The recalled helmets were sold online at www.amazon.com, www.nordstrom.com, www.pyleusa.com, and www.ruelala.com from September 2020 through March 2023 for approximately $17. The helmets were also distributed on https://pyleusa.com/ as part of a free product registration promotion for other PyleUSA sport products.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled helmets do not comply with the positional stability requirements of the U.S. CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. As a result, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps. After destroying the helmet, consumers must upload photos of the helmet with the straps cut to the recall registration website. After uploading the photos, consumers should dispose of the recalled helmet. Consumers who received the unit as a free promotion should dispose of the unit so that children cannot use it.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a full refund of the purchase price. Consumers must contact Sound Around to receive the refund after completing the destruction and photo upload process as described in the Consumer Action Required section.
