Recall Information Record
Database Entry ID: 9754
Recall Number: 24024
Recall Date: November 9, 2023
1. Recall Summary
This recall involves all sizes of IKEA LETTAN flat mirrors. The recall is an expansion of a previous recall announced in March 2023. The recall notice was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on November 9, 2023. The recall is being conducted due to a laceration hazard associated with the mirror’s wall-mounting fittings.
2. Affected Products
The recalled products are IKEA LETTAN flat mirrors. The mirrors are frameless and approximately 38 inches high. They were sold in widths of 23, 31, 39, and 47 inches. The specific mirrors affected by this recall are:
– All LETTAN mirrors with a date stamp before and including 2105 (YYWW format).
– LETTAN mirrors with supplier number 21944 and a date stamp before and including 2325 (YYWW format).
The date stamp is located on the back of the mirror. The date stamp uses a YYWW format, where the first two digits represent the year of manufacture and the last two digits represent the week of manufacture. The mirrors were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at IKEA.com from December 2019 through June 2023. The retail price ranged between $23 and $56. The mirrors were manufactured in China. The importer is IKEA Supply AG, of Switzerland. The distributor is IKEA US Retail LLC, of Virginia.
The number of units affected in the United States is approximately 14,600. In addition, approximately 10,500 units were sold in Canada. The recall expands upon a previous recall in March 2023, which involved approximately 22,400 units.
3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with this product is that the plastic fittings that attach the mirror to the wall can break. This can cause the mirror to fall off the wall, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. The recall notice states that IKEA has received 10 incident reports globally in addition to the 55 reported in the previous recall. In the U.S., there has been one report of the plastic fittings coming loose and the mirror falling off the wall in addition to the one reported in the previous recall. No injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mirrors. Consumers should contact IKEA to order a free set of replacement wall fittings and instructions. Alternatively, customers can return the mirror to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a full refund.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy options for this recall are a refund or a repair. Consumers may choose to:
