(TTIOPE), of Anderson, South Carolina, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of RYOBI 40V 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers. The recall involves approximately 113,000 units in the United States and an additional 15,000 units sold in Canada. The recall was initiated due to a laceration hazard associated with the product’s blade activation mechanism.

The hedge trimmer blade can unexpectedly activate after pressing just the safety or trigger control individually, rather than requiring the simultaneous engagement of both controls. This malfunction poses a laceration hazard to the user. The firm has received 27 reports of the blade activating after pressing only one of the controls. Of these reports, 16 involved injuries resulting in minor and some severe lacerations.
