1. Recall Summary
On July 31, 2025, TTI Consumer Power Tools, Inc., of Anderson, South Carolina, initiated a recall of approximately 64,000 RIDGID framing nailers sold in the United States, and an additional 6,575 units sold in Canada. The recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves two specific models of cordless framing nailers. The nailers were manufactured in China and sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide and online at www.homedepot.com and www.directtoolsoutlet.com from July 2021 through May 2025, with a retail price between $329 and $389.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes the following two models of RIDGID 18Volt Brushless Framing Nailers:
– RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailer (Model Number: R09894)
– RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 30-Degree Framing Nailer (Model Number: R09895)
The model and serial numbers are located on the data plate, which is found either on the side of the nail tray/magazine where the fasteners are loaded, or on the bottom of the nailer where the battery is inserted. Only nailers without either a black ink mark or a punched hole next to the serial number on the data plate are included in the recall. The serial number ranges for the recalled units are as follows:
– Model R09894: CS21146D220001 – CS24165N220001
– Model R09895: CS21275D220001 – CS24165N220001
3. Hazard Information
The recall was initiated due to a defect in the dual action engagement system on the nailers. According to the recall notice, this system can malfunction and cause the nailer to involuntarily discharge a nail by pulling the trigger alone. The nailer is designed to require both the work piece contact element (nose-piece) to be depressed and the trigger to be pulled at the same time in order to discharge a nail. When this safety mechanism fails, the tool poses a laceration hazard to consumers. As of the date of the recall notice, no injuries had been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers who own one of the recalled nailers should immediately stop using the product. The recall notice instructs consumers to visit powertools.ridgid.com/recall to determine if their specific nailer is included in the recall. Consumers should also visit this website for detailed instructions on how to proceed with the recall process.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by TTI Consumer Power Tools is a free repair. The company will send a prepaid shipping label to the consumer. The consumer must return the recalled nailer using this label. Once received, TTI Consumer Power Tools will update the software in the nailer and then ship the repaired nailer back to the consumer. No cost will be incurred by the consumer for this repair or for the return shipping.
