Hazard Information

The hazard involves the plastic or metal hooks on the play kitchen. These hooks are meant to hold toy kitchen accessories such as play pots and pans. If young children are climbing on the counter or crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchen, their clothing can get caught on these hooks. This poses a strangulation hazard. One incident has been reported. In February 2023 in Oregon, a 23-month-old child was asphyxiated after his shirt got caught on one of the hooks while climbing and crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchen where the toy kitchen accessories are held. The child was unable to rescue himself and died from strangulation and asphyxia.

Consumer Action Required

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled play kitchens. Consumers must remove the original hooks from the play kitchen. After removing the hooks, consumers should contact Backyard Kids to request free replacement hooks.
