This recall involves Bella residential elevators manufactured from 2009 to 2021. The recall was announced on January 11, 2022. The elevators are used in consumers’ homes. The recall was initiated due to a child entrapment hazard. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

2. Affected Products
The recalled products are Bella residential elevators. The models included in this recall are Symmetry IGD, Hydraulic, and Winding Drum Elevators. The Symmetry brand name is located on the elevators’ controllers. The elevators were manufactured from 2009 to 2021. Approximately 10,500 units are affected.

The elevators and parts were sold through a network of authorized dealers and, occasionally, directly to consumers nationwide from June 2009 to December 2021. The price range for the elevators, including installation, was between approximately $20,000 and $35,000.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard associated with these elevators is that young children can become entrapped in the space between the exterior landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door or gate if there is a hazardous gap. If a child becomes entrapped in this space, they can suffer serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor. The exterior door locks the young child in the space between the doors when the elevator is called to another floor, putting the child at risk of being crushed or pinned. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should keep unsupervised young children away from the recalled residential elevators. Consumers should contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to measure for space guards to correct any hazardous gap.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a repair. Space guards will be provided free of charge to correct any hazardous gap. Assistance with space guard installation will be provided on request.
